Pierre Chareau

Pierre Chareau (1883–1950) was a French architect and designer best known for the Maison de Verre (1932) in Paris — a Modernist masterpiece whose facade of glass blocks revolutionised the use of translucent materials in architecture. The house, designed with Bernard Bijvoet, combines an industrial material palette with meticulous craftsmanship, creating interiors that glow with diffused natural light.
