Renzo Piano (born 1937) is an Italian architect who received the Pritzker Prize in 1998. The catalogue features the Centre Pompidou (1977) in Paris, designed with Richard Rogers — the building that turned High-tech architecture into a cultural phenomenon by placing escalators, ducts, and structural bracing on the exterior, freeing the interior for flexible exhibition space. Piano went on to design the Shard in London, the Whitney Museum in New York, and numerous other cultural institutions worldwide.
