Francisco Javier Sáenz de Oíza (1918–2000) was one of Spain's most important 20th-century architects, moving between Brutalism, organic forms, and sacred architecture. The catalogue holds 2 of his works in Spain.
Torres Blancas (1968) in Madrid is a residential tower whose cylindrical concrete forms cluster and branch like a grove of trees — one of the finest examples of Organic-Brutalist architecture in Europe. The Sanctuary of Arantzazu (1955) in Gipuzkoa, designed with Luis Laorga, is a Modernist pilgrimage church set into the Basque mountains. Both buildings demonstrate Sáenz de Oíza's ability to give concrete an almost biological expressiveness.
